Every time I watch an Apple TV show, I find myself A) immensely entertained and B) genuinely confused as to why more people aren’t watching this incredible content!
I can only assume the good people of Earth simply don’t know about the sheer amount of high-calibre content that awaits them within this subscription plan. So, allow me to enlighten you with a list of 15 shows worth subscribing for, so that all my favourite shows don’t get cancelled.
1-Severance
Synopsis: "Mark leads a team of office workers whose memories have been surgically divided between their work and personal lives. When a mysterious colleague appears outside of work, it begins a journey to discover the truth about their jobs."
Reasons to watch
Incredibly dystopian concept carried out with near-flawless execution.
A captivating story filled with unpredictable wrists and turns.
Absolutely stellar performances from the entire cast.
One of the best seasons finales in recent/streaming history (incredibly highly anticipated season 2 on the way).
2-ted lasso
Synopsis: "American college football coach Ted Lasso heads to London to manage AFC Richmond, a struggling English Premier League soccer team."
A master-class in heart-warming comedy. Beautifully light-hearted, with significant depth.
Highly lovable fan-favourite characters, brought to life through skilled performances that balance comedy and humour.
Football is a central theme (for fans of the sport, or those trying to convince fans of the sport to watch with them).
3-black bird
Synopsis: "Jimmy Keene is sentenced to 10 years in a minimum security prison but he cuts a deal with the FBI to befriend a suspected serial killer. Keene has to elicit a confession from Larry Hall to find the bodies of as many as eighteen women."
Top-tier dramatic performances from the two leads (the kind you notice even if you’re not particularly in to analysing shows like that).
It’s based on a true story (which always makes a show a little more gripping in my opinion).
As a limited series, it comes with a limited time commitment.
4-hijack
Synopsis: "A plane from Dubai to London is hijacked over a 7-hour flight, while authorities on the ground scramble for answers."
As always, Idris Elba delivers a badass and charismatic performance, bolstered by the unique nature of Elba’s character (relative to the situation).
It executes the storyline of a plane hijacking in an incredibly thrilling and unique way that makes it stand out from shows with similar plotlines.
5-criminal record
Synopsis: "Follows two brilliant detectives in a tug of war over a historic murder conviction and the quest to find common ground in a polarized Britain."
A cop drama that explores a cover-up conspiracy and racial themes in modern Britain (refreshingly different to see these themes discussed outside of American content).
Strong performances from a talented and recognisable cast (Peter Capaldi - Dr Who, Cush Jumbo - The Good Wife)
6-sugar
Synopsis: "Private detective John Sugar investigates the disappearance of Olivia, the beloved granddaughter of Hollywood producer Jonathan Siegel. As Sugar tries to determine what happened to Olivia, he unearths Siegel family secrets, old and new."
An incredibly cool and charismatic, yet reserved and dramatic, performance room Colin Farrell.
classic, film-noir detective style storytelling despite the modern settings.
It features one of the most unexpected plot developments I’ve ever seen.
Concludes the story nicely while leaving you eager for a second season.
7-presumed innocent
Synopsis: "A horrific murder upends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorney's' office when one of its own is suspected of the crime."
Maybe the best legal drama I’ve ever seen.
Incredibly intense throughout, climaxing with a nail-biting court-case and an ending no viewer will forget.
Stellar performances form every single member of the cast.

8-the afterparty
Synopsis: "When a high school reunion's afterparty ends in a death, everyone is a suspect. A detective grills the former classmates one by one, uncovering potential motives as each tells their version of the story - culminating in the shocking truth."
Laugh out loud funny and light-hearted, very easy to watch.
Each episode is a different genre, which is a really fun and engaging gimmick.
The murder mystery itself is fun & satisfying to explore.
A cast full of recognisable faces (Ben Schwartz, Sam Wilson, Tiffany Haddish and more).
9-sunny
Synopsis: "Follows Suzie, an American woman living in Japan, and Sunny, a domestic robot made by her husband's company, as they uncover the dark truth of what really happened to Suzie's husband and son who disappeared in a mysterious plane crash."
Explores a very unique, emotional, and captivating mystery.
Dramatic aspects of the story allow Rasheeda Jones to showcase strong dramatic acting chops.
The Japanese setting makes for a lot of cool cultural visuals & aesthetics.

10-bad monkey
Synopsis: "A detective turned restaurant inspector in Key West is pulled into a world of greed and corruption after a tourist finds a severed arm while fishing. And yes, there's a monkey."
It’s got a fun, sunny, light-hearted tone, but explores a pretty serious case, and balances both tones nicely.
Vince Vaughn in all his manic comedic glory.
An enthralling story that keeps you eager to keep coming back episode after episode.
There’s a monkey in it!
The cast is quite diverse, in a refreshingly organic, non-showy kind of way.
11-see
Synopsis: "Far in a dystopian future, the human race has lost the sense of sight, and society has had to find new ways to interact, build, hunt, and to survive. All of that is challenged when a set of twins are born with sight."
Tells a very cool dystopian story that’s both unique and quite thought-provoking.
The ideas are really well-executed which helps add depth to the show and hold your attention.
There’s a significant amount of action in most of the episodes and it gets quite intense ( and gory).
Features Jason Maomao in the kind of role he thrives in. Partly Khal Drogo, with a dash of Aqua man.
12-foundation
Synopsis: "A complex saga of humans scattered on planets throughout the galaxy all living under the rule of the Galactic Empire."
Epic, expansive, large-scale storyline (spans centuries)
Extremely thought-provoking, exploring scientific, religious, political, and philosophical themes.
Great show for those who love getting stuck into the details of an epic story.
Absolutely stunning visuals in most if not all episodes.
Very strong performances from the entire (diverse) cast.
13-the crowded room
Synopsis: "In Manhattan in the summer of 1979, a young man is arrested for a shocking crime, and an unlikely investigator must solve the mystery behind it before the true criminal strikes again."
A true hidden gem, with Tom Holland delivering a stellar, heart-breaking performance.
Eye-opening, beautifully-executed insights into mental health.
Based on a true story.
Limited series, limited time commitment.
(features themes some viewers may find disturbing, look into it more before checking it out if you’re interested.)
14-shrinking
Synopsis: "A grieving therapist starts to tell his clients exactly what he thinks. Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge changes to people's lives - including his own."
Another laugh-out-loud, heart-warming, yet emotional, comedy (from the team that brought you Ted Lasso)
Lighthearted tone, very easy to watch when you need something chill to put on in the background, but good enough to actually hold your attention.
Cast full of recognisable faces including Jason Segal, Harrison Ford & Jessica Williams.
15-mythic quest
Synopsis: "The head of a successful video game design company and his troubled staff struggle to keep their hit game 'Mythic Quest' on top."
Similar enough to Always Sunny for it to be worth watching for fans, but different enough that people who don’t like Always Sunny can definitely enjoy it too.
A cast filled with faces you’ll recognise from other shows.
Laugh out loud funny.
A little more depth than your standard sitcom.
Maybe some of these shows won’t be for you, but a couple definitely will! Get your subscriptions or your free-trials, whatever it takes, and start binge watching some of these incredible shows! Seriously, if Apple TV cancels any of my favourites, I’m holding you directly accountable!!
